It's always like that.  I've always assumed that those were just the days that he happened to grab the data.

The observation date for the data points is always the 1st & 15th of the month.  The date I "grab" the data is always a day or two later than that, as I assume that on the observation day the data can still be changing.  The horizontal location of the data points has nothing to do with the labelling of the X axis.

They seem to level out somewhat around the 2 year mark a bit...

Of course, by that point it's too late...
