Maybe it was some strange sort of fraud test?
That's as Occam's Razor-ish I can think of.

Why would Prosper test with the live site?

That still doesn't explain why loan #1 is late.
Looks like some sort of test to see where new lenders have their rates set at.

Couldn't they just query that directly from their database?

Why would Prosper test with the live site? I think there were lots of live tests in the past.

A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence agst. foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people. -James Madison Speech, Constitutional Convention (6/29/1787)

To me the most disturbing thing is the silence. There are now several developing lines of inquiry that throw serious doubt on the future health of Prosper.
Instead of addressing these, they blog about Michael Phelps.

Would the rest of the board finding about the letter sent to prosper and JW not being able to answer it possibly have been the cuase of the ousting? If he was ousted from the board.

Would the rest of the board finding about the letter sent to prosper and JW not being able to answer it possibly have been the cuase of the ousting? If he was ousted from the board. It might explain his apparent ousting as CTO and pretty much COO -- but it wouldn't explain his apparent ousting from the Board. As a co-founder, I would assume he has sufficient shares to guarantee his Board seat. So there must have been strong leverage to get him to leave the Board.

If, as you have indicated, you don’t trust Prosper to detect fraud when it exists or to remunerate you when we find it, then you should reconsider whether you want to lend on Prosper. I did; withdrawing since Black Friday, March 30, 2007--with one exception.

As the GLEE continues to spread throughout .ORG, I just wanted to let you know that I was having a technical problem and sent PMI customer support an email yesterday. I got a prompt, helpful response. I followed up with a phone call today and the phone was answerd within 30 seconds by a cheery, helpful person. Problem resolved.

Could you call back & ask when to expect the blender right of offset we were promised 2 years ago? We were promised that if a lender were ever late on his own prosper loan that prosper would take that money from the lender side as he got repayments & put it toward his loan..You know, like 100% of other financial institutions do.
