Prosper *poofs* user forums, explains
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:16:24 pm »

It has happened once before that Prosper simply, without comment or acknowledgment,  removed their user community forums.  Now it has happened again, but at least this time they did acknowledge that they have done this. Quite possibly due to their becoming aware,  through speculation here on .org, that those forums and their comments might be inappropriate during the Quiet Period.

Here is the official explanation.

It is, of course, sad coincidence that lately the comments in the forums that have been removed due to these actions have been more and more disillusioned as newer community members have come to realize the grim realities of sinking money into non-performing loans.

We should remain mindful of this and see, when (if?) Prosper emerges from the Quiet Period, these forums are restored intact.

Apparently, although I have not verified this, commenting on their official blog has also been suspended for the same reason.

I don't know if, like last time, it will emerge that some enterprising soul has archived discussions on the Prosper forums, and if so, that kind soul would make those discussions available to the powers behind ProsperReport.com, who,  last time this happened, provided an archive and reference source for old Prosper community information.

Note to Bamalucky: I know you wanted your post moved to the lobby, but your post was rather insubstantial, so I decided to write something that was at least more than one vague sentence only  intelligible to "insiders."

No problem HO

As long as something made it to the lobby.

My complaint with Prosper is our comments have nothing to do with their quiet period. Our comments are, well "our own"

I see it is an obvious attempt to hide even more information from lenders.

I wonder if emails will go unanswered?

I went back as far as June for the blogs. Apparently ALL comments have been removed.

Yes, looks that way.  Maybe all Prosper comments posted since the SEC filing - which was October of last year - needed to be removed/hidden.  (The blog dates back to November of last year.)  Just a guess...

In theory, it's Prosper who has the quiet time, not the lenders, borrowers or any other people who commented. Seems to me that deleting the blogs should have happened along with deleting the comments.

Like most of the other issues, they might get it right eventually.

I have to wonder if SEC members are just shaking their heads in awe of Prosper (and not in the way PMI wants).

Mtnchick, agree.  During the silent period it would seem PROSPER needs to be silent, not their customers and/or critics.

It's almost funny that they broke their silence to tell us OUR comments have been removed ;)

OK, I think you two are right.  But maybe somebody will make the effort to look up the pertinent regs.   :o

I worked for a number of years for a corporation that regularly went through quiet periods.

Quiet periods, in my experience, are intended solely to prevent unfair or premature disclosure of financial information (including information related to securities, new or existing) before the company announces it formally.  As such, quiet periods impact only those with INSIDE KNOWLEDGE of company financial or securities information.  Rank and file folks whose functions do not include knowledge of non-public financial or securities data (for example, customer service personnel) are unaffected.   They just do their jobs.  External entities, such as message board posters, are so far removed from quiet period restrictions that they would never even be thought about.   Furthermore, I've never heard of a company shutting down ANY business operation because of a quiet period.

Maybe Prosper's "quiet period" is a completely different animal from anything I've expereinced.   Maybe Prosper is using the quiet period as cover for some other activity.

I can't recall that Prosper ever used anything as a cover for anything.
They just went and did it.
But then if it was a successful cover, how would I know?   :ninja:  :D
