Have to wonder if the SEC gave them a choice - either close down yourselves, or we'll close you down.

This sure seems likely to me.  Prosper's bogus announcement certainly wasn't the truth (is there one person here who believes that it was the "outcry" from non-CA lenders who "overwhelmed" Prosper?)  Bwahahahah!  So if the proffered reason is a lie, it is pretty likely that the real reason why something big that Prosper didn't want to admit.  The SEC telling them to close up seems like the most likely possibility.  If I were the VC, I would fire Larsen over this -- what kind of moron goes out of his way to poke sticks in the eye of his federal regulator?

The announcement reads quite like "spin."

Does this mean we can now get back to transferring out in smaller amounts?

Sweet!  I've been unable to make a transfer since they reopened.

You never know...one person's outcry could overwhelm them.

So, the loans that received full funding during the opening...did they get poofed?

Perhaps someone called CS during the time someone was there and answering the phone.

It appears that Prosper 2.0 Repuchased all of them.

In that case, the official explanation regarding the shut-down just became a whole lot more suspect.

The fact that the announcement came from from the Company in question made it suspect enough for me.

Transferring out never stopped. Just less to transfer.

Those in CA couldn't transfer out less than $25 - I think that's what they were referring to.

Check out the blog

http://blog.prosper.com/

That's actually the most informative blog they've had so far.

I suspect in addition to the SEC probably telling them that "quiet" means "quiet", the SEO backfired on them. A serious investor is going to be about as impressed as we were with a financial blog instructing you to pick up pennies and use soy candles.
