But then all the laws regarding privacy in lending got in the way, along with the costs of verification, and loan servicing, and collections and going after defaulters, and prosper (and we) learned why the banks loan out money at 15% and pay 4-5% (or less) to depositors.

Plus those pesky securities laws.

It was a good dream (or fable...) though.-

Privacy laws have NOTHING to do with it.  Borrowers and lenders are free to agree to have whatever information they wanted posted, as Prosper's OWN official Privacy Policy stated.  Prosper just likes to use privacy as a smoke screen for secrecy.

Prosper will cease to exist by the end of this year. At least as far as accepting new listings. They'll close up shop and solely service existing loans. And this result has nothing to do with the court proceedings.

Care to bet $50 on your prediction?
