The distribution is being handled by a Court Appointed third Party Administrator, not the plaintiffs lawyers. The lawyers, unrelated to that statement yesterday asked me to complete a W-9 IRS form today(just coincidence).

"the end of Summer" == the following assumes the discussion herein of end of summer refers to that of the year 2014.

September 22, 2014 at 10:29 P.M. EDT = the last moment of Summer 2014 and the first moment of Fall 2014.

I consulted "The Old Farmers Almanac" to get my information = http://www.almanac.com/content/first-day-seasons

From this information we must assume that we will start getting checks somewhere near the middle of September.
Stay tuned for more information and jubilation as the "The Money Returns"  :D ;D ;)

I received a mysterious check for $25.80 for a settled class action. The check is from: Transunion Corporation Privacy Litigation Settlement Administrator
PO Box 4199
Portland, OR 97208-4199

Is this Prosper?

MsAva - I believe this is what you got: http://www.listclassaction.com/content/Summary_Notice.pdf

Quote
A settlement worth at least $75 million has been reached with Trans
Union LLC and Acxiom Corporation (“Defendants”) in a class action
lawsuit that claims the Defendants violated state laws and the Fair Credit
Reporting Act (“FCRA”) when they sold lists containing personal and
financial consumer information to third parties for marketing purposes.
The settlement does not mean the Defendants violated any laws or did
anything wrong. The Defendants deny any claims of wrongdoing in
this case.

Lawyers must really clean up on these things. I need to keep a record of how many of these I've received.

The lawyers did all the work on this, resulting in you receiving an unexpected $25.80 check.  It was essentially a complete windfall to you, as you would have received nothing absent the lawyers' work.  So what's the problem?  Incidentally, my wife, MIL, and myself also all received $25.80.

There is absolutely no problem. I just like to know from where my money comes for record keeping.

Also, if there is no wrong doing and no blame, why would a company have to pay $75 million?

So the street value of your personal financial information is $25.80?

Mine's worth nothing apparently, since I didn't get a check.

It was a settlement.  They agreed to pay the $75M to avoid the continued legal expense and risk of going to trial.  The potential damages were orders of magnitude higher, though they also might have prevailed.

I got the same $25.80.  My speculation is that I'm part of the class because I use TransUnion periodically to see my free annual credit report?
Anyway, I have a vague recollection receiving a notice long ago about the TransUnion lawsuit and something about privacy.
My thanks to DCS for filling in those blanks for me.

Well I received a few more dollars in the Prosper account under the heading of charge-off recovery. Amazing!
