Receive An Email From Prosper Threatening Suspension?
« on: December 16, 2007, 11:12:00 am »

You're not alone:

My profile page description (an invitation to .org) has been deleted
http://www.prosper.com/groups/member_home.aspx?screen_name=DakotahFury

The email I just got:
Quote
Dear xxxxx,
This email is in response to a confirmed policy violation on your member page.
Content published purely for advertising or promotional purposes will be promptly removed, and your account will be suspended. Repeated occurrences may result in termination of your registration with Prosper. This content has been removed.
Continued violation of Prosper's policies will result in suspension or termination of your Prosper account. Please abide by Prosper's policies.
For additional information, see our publishing policy.

Sincerely,
Prosper

ETA: I just added a new description
ETA2: Is it automated? I added another link...I'll leave it up for a few minutes to test what happens.
ETA3: I left it up for 15 minutes...nothing happened. Apparently it's being done manually.

Hell, far from being alone - I consider it quite an exclusive group ;)

I complained about it because I had no idea what they were talking about it.  In their form letter response they said they don't like people "linking to sites that collect personal information".  I assume they're talking about this site, since it was the only thing I had there.

That's funny - coming from Prosper.  They collect SSNs and bank acct routing info (even asking for passwords) - and used to provide names and phone numbers of borrower to any idiot who set up a group.

Not to mention providing enough information in one of their "borrower success stories" that I was able to locate the poor guy's full name, address, SSN, DOB, and former business.

Propsper deleted my description as well (and I only had my prospers.org screen name listed-- no link). I e-mailed them to ask what was up, and this is the response I received:

Quote
Prosper recently removed the content from your member page.  We recognize that you may have been prompted by an unauthorized third party site or by other Prosper members to do this.  We are also aware that you may not have realized that represents a very real security risk and a policy violation.

This policy exists for the safety of both you and other members.

Your Prosper account contains sensitive financial information.  Providing your Prosper screen name, email, and possibly your password represents a risk to the safety of your Prosper account.  You should never provide this information to anyone.

By providing links and references on your member page to websites that gather such information you encourage other users to do the same thus creating increased risk.

In order to create a safe and trusted marketplace it is important that all members abide by the Prosper policies.
