Lep,
I just signed up for ProProsper.  Is ther a way to write your own SQL?  I did not see a place, but I wonder if we can just use sql to find bid amounts of $5000 and $8000.

-Joe
Go to the Query Analyzer page, and then you can write your own SQL. The data definitions are found at

https://www.prosper.com/Downloads/Services/Documentation/ProsperDataExport_Details.html

I think the $5000 and $8000 bids are a red herring.  The only lenders to have placed a $5000 bid and an $8000 bid in 2007 are these people, and none has anywhere close to 170 loans.

BigEasyLending         24 loans
Cashfunders            18 loans
ecallad                   16 loans
FriendsWhoLend       127 loans   > 300,000 loaned
James01                 66 loans

Agreed:

Methinks this is a suspect lender (e.g. doesn't exist or is a friend/employee of P------r).

Hey beerbud1, could you ask Kathy Chu about these discrepancies in her story, specifically, that the only lenders to have placed $5000 and $8000 bids have nowhere near 170 loans? I'd be curious to hear what she says.

I was thinking of asking her to ask Cory to contact me about this? Or ask her to ask him what his screen name is?
What do you think about that?

I shouldn't think she has any professional motivation to get into specifics about Corey.  Maybe she'll reply out of the kindness of her heart - in which case, kudos to her - but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Lep,
I got a slightly different list but I opened the amount between $7001 and $8100, just in case there was rounding in the amounts.  I came up with these names:
carrey79
cloughly
cooljas
csmio
dm1244
DrunkenMic
GreyPearlGroup
guitarman
HellenicInvestmentsLLC
ill-help-u-out
James01
jasonpeery
lawyer1
octoberfresh
pensioner
stanleyd

I did not go into the details of how much they have invested though.  My SQL was:
select distinct ScreenName from bid, member where (ParticipationAmount between 7001 and 8100) and bid.memberkey=member.[key] and status='winning' and Year(BIDCDT)='2007'

Me too, but I don't think we've done our homework here sufficiently yet.  Lep, did you search for exactly $5K and $8K bids?  I think it would be reasonable for Cory to make that statement if the $5K bid was $4500-5999 and the $8K bid was $7,500-$8999.  Can you generate the list of those lenders (joining in 2007), and how many loans they have?  If none of those lenders made at least 150 loans or so, then I think Cory and/or Kathy has some 'splaining to do.

Even assuming a portfolio of $8500 plus $5000 plus $8000, $4000 in interest would mean a 19% interest rate, assuming that he made every loan on January 1.

Even as a moderator, I have no idea where the PII line is, so I've posted Cory's Prosper ID in a non-public forum.

Thanks, Traveler.  Great work (as always).

Someone should definitely point out to the reporter that he only made half the interest claimed in the story, and much of that was on two huge loans that were not mentioned in the story.
