The worst part of the debacle of changing all references of "Prosper" to "-------" was that people couldn't even use the word Prosperous anymore.

It sounds like SleazyMan missed a lot of what went on at Prosper during the early days.

Lazyman, making money isn't bad. Satire isn't bad. But offering to sell your endorsement is a direct and clear violation of Prosper TOS.

And your post wasn't satire by any definition. You were serious, even if you were doing it simply to raise a point. Furthermore, doing sleazy things to prove a point tends to fail of effect and just make the doer look bad. That's why you are getting so much flack here. BTW, i reported your blog post to Prosper. It isn't funny.

"OFFERING to sell your endorsement is a direct and clear violation of Prosper TOS." - You sure that offering is, or is it the act of doing it?  You reference "doing" here and fail to realize that I've just written about it, not done it.

OFFERING to do it violates TOS. Xenon's post quotes the section of TOS.

How can one know if I was serious or not?  It's the beauty of the English language.

Whatever you say, Humpty Dumpty. However, you didn't blog "hey, it would be possible for someone to sell endorsements." You offered to do it. "I was kidding" is rarely accepted as a defense for threatening to commit a crime. Try it in an airport sometime, or a bank.

If Prosper does suspend me, then they can buy out my loans, close my accounts, and give me the cash.  I don't see how they'd legally be allowed to keep my money.

You must be new around here. Suspended lenders do not get their loans bought out. They continue to receive payments from borrowers and have the right to transfer those payments out of prosper. Period. However, I'm sure Prosper won't suspend you.

The simple act of saying that I might walk through that security breach is not a security breach itself.

Tell ya what - make a public post on how to breach security at a major bank, credit card company, ANY OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTION that runs itself like a professional business. Then go in and tell them about the post and you aren't GOING to do it, but you just wanted to publicly SHOW that it could be done. Let us know how that turns out. (Hint: you will more than likely be arrested. You will FOR SURE not be paid for your posting.........).

You mean like the hundreds of posts on the Internet of credit card arbitrage?  Let's also not confuse with acting against the Terms of Service with an illegal act.

I don't spend much time analyzing Prosper's actions beyond the surface layer.  I simply don't have the time to devote to the cause.  I know you guys dig deeper.  I commend you on that.

See above quote...

I have been lending since February 2006.  I didn't follow the forums, group leaders, or anything of that nature.

If you want to get technical with the TOS (and is seems that you do)... it applies only to bids, not endorsements.  It may seem like a technicality, but when you deal with the legalize, you have to close up those technicalities.  My offer was to "buy the endorsement."  The bids on loans that I make are just my own... anyone looking to buy an endorsement would also have pass my own personal bidding criteria.

1.  You need to fix your quote boxes.

2.  When you say "legalize," do you mean "legalese"?  As a writer, I'm sure you can appreciate the importance of spelling things correctly, especially when a mis-spelling results in a different word with a different meaning.

3.  If I am understanding your comment above correctly, you are saying you are not violating the TOS because the TOS applies only to bids.  To quote your offer:
Quote
Contact me and let me know how much you want your endorsement for. Give me that money plus 50% and I’ll bid on your loan.

Your offer specifically including bidding on the loan.

Quote from: SleazyMan's Offer
You want a $50 endorsement on your loan. You contact me, we talk, and you send me $75 through PayPal. I bid $50 of that money on your loan with an endorsement and keep $25 for my time.

This guy is a tool. Not worth bothering with. But it's been useful to find another example of Prosper ignoring blatant TOS violations.

I missed a slash in the quote boxes.  It happens with multiple nesting.

Yes, I meant the legalese.  I purposely don't take the time in forums to proofread.  Any writer has levels of writing.  A quick e-mail to a friend almost gets no proofreading... A forum post, maybe a little... A blog post for myself, a little more...  A blog post for Prosper, even more...  A job application, a lot more... etc.  As such, small things like the spelling between legalize/legalese is like a there/their mix-up...  unless it's more than a blog post for myself, expect multiple writing mistakes.

My offer to buy an endorsement is from individuals that I would already bid my own money on.  I probably should have mentioned that in my post.  I thought it was implicit that there's an approval process on my end.  If someone says that they want to build a missile with the money, I'm not going to be bidding on it, and hence my endorsement is not offered.

In short, if you qualify and buy the endorsement (under the terms specified), I give you the bid for free with no kickbacks.

<begin thread digression>

This is really kind of funny.  This is exactly why I began scheduled withdrawals out of -------.com last month.  I stuck it out in the face of all the criticism and PMI bungles the past year thinking if I just focus on good loans, I could give two sh*ts about mgmt.  Boy, that is short sighted-- I was assuming -------.com would be around 3 years later as each loan paid off.  I really believe the ship is goin' down and I have zero faith PMI will properly execute the "handoff" of our loans to a new processor/servicer.  What real honest to goodness motivation would they have to make sure our "notes" ever get handled correctly when they go out of business.  I just do not see it.  Like I am gonna sue to get back my little bag of snickers bars.

-------.com will die -- they will fumble the ball, and our notes will get lost in the shuffle.  I can see it now-- good borrowers will actually be wanting to pay back their loans and they will have no way to do it.

I am taking out $25 a week as fast as I can!

You just keep spinning the yarns

Quote
It’s pretty simple really. Contact me and let me know how much you want your endorsement for. Give me that money plus 50% and I’ll bid on your loan. If you end up paying off your loan, I will return the value of your endorsement.

Now you are adding stipulations because you know you made an ass of yourself.(& continue to do so)
