Right, so why then do they bother cancelling the listings of some borrowers based on information they provide as part of the narrative?

No, I meant like when people offer outside payments, subscriptions to their porn sites, free lodging, etc.

This appears to be the most recent of the various threads about this loan.  I blogged about it today.  In case no one else noticed, it was repurchased a little more than a week ago.

That loan is just sceaming a scam to me. Reminds me of the Godfather dialogue.

Quote
Don Corleone: So, I am to receive thirty percent for finance, for legal protection and politcal influence, is that what you're telling me?
Sollozzo: That's right.
Don Corleone: Why come to me? What have I done to deserve such generousity?

Every time I see amazing deals, I always ask myself that question. Why me? Why do I deserve such an amazing opportunity. The answer is almost always that there is a catch.

*sigh*
They could have cancelled the loan. Instead, they allowed it, and now they have had to buy it back.  :(

I doubt anyone here gives a shit about you.  We pretty much all know that you are a vile and unethical parasite of a human being with an abnormal craving for attention."

Something has to be done about these Nigerian scams.  A large percentage of people who fall for this are stupid to be sure.  Don't forget that two percent of the population has significant mental illness and there is a percentage who are bipolar, manic and ths particularly vulnerable.  It makes no difference what these people have been able to accomplish in their lives.  Many of them have been highly successful.  There are no protections against these scammers, as we live in a free country and people are entitled to throw all their money down a hole and then go homeless if they want to.  Western Union doesn't care and neither does Money Gram.   Add Prosper to the list of those who are in it for the $ and don't care.   Privacy laws are such that the victim has to be the one filing the complaint and even then all of it is untraceable.

Alright! Prospers crack team pounced on it when it was reported by Lenders!

They probably just now got around to reading those Report Abuse messages for this particular time frame.

56.  About a dozen of those were the Victoria Crawford scam loans.  http://www.lendingstats.com/loans?keyword=&dtiLow=0&dtiHigh=-1&loanAmountLow=0&loanAmountHigh=25000&_ros=14&startDate=2005-11-01&endDate=2008-07-31&accountVerified=&homeOwner=&automaticFunding=&submit=Generate&sort=originationTime&sortDirection=DESC

However, as I've expounded upon in other threads, Prosper has essentially stopped repurchasing loans.  Prosper has repurchased only ONE loan originated after 8/1/07 -- a year ago.  If anyone really believes that there has only been 1 ID-theft loan originated in the last year, I have a great bridge in New York to sell them.
