Community Moderation
« on: December 16, 2007, 01:29:29 pm »

The public boards at Prospers.org are open for everyone to read and are indexed by Google.

This is in adjunct to several additional layers of boards.

If you register (using a valid email address*), you will immediately gain access to several additional forums. Additional registration/verification may be required for additional boards - there are boards where only lenders with more than $500 in loans can post/read, certain Prosper groups have forums and some members have exclusive sub-communities.

The following guidelines should be used when posting in the public boards.

  • Keep your topic relevant to improve Google indexing.
  • No spam. Spam is subject to immediate deletion
  • No fighting. To be able to post here, you have to be registered. As such, take your fight with other members to an inside board. This is not to say that we encourage fighting, but we recognize that some members will have issues that they will want to get off their chests. Note that an alternative consideration is to simply ignore a member of a particular board. You can set various ignore options from your profile.
  • No personal insults at anyone (including Prosper employees).
  • Personal data. It is strongly advised that you never post personal data in an online Internet board such as Prospers.org. If, you wish to do so on prospers.org, and specifically do so in the public boards that can be crawled and indexed by Google and other search engines, do the following:

    • Post a notice in the Moderator Requests Board that you intend to publish your personal data in a public post and that you are aware of the consequences and will bear the responsibility for all said consequences.  As soon as a moderator replies by quoting your request (to prevent subsequent modification and/or deletion), you are free to do so.

There is a community panel of moderators appointed to oversee specifically these public forums. They will delete spam on first sight. All other posts may be moved to a moderating area for discussion amongst the community moderators before action is ultimately taken.

If you have an issue with a moderating action, or wish to discuss these guidelines, please take it to the prospers.org discussion board.

Amplification or a further discussion of the moderating guidelines can be found here.

Moderating duties
All the moderators have limited authority. The majority of the moderators are limited in their actions to the two public boards, The Lobby and Introductions. On these boards, they have the authority to enforce the guidelines as laid out at the beginning of this notice. They are unable to moderate on any other section of the boards. Except for incidences of spam, they are strongly urged to move threads they wish to act on to a moderating area for discussion prior to taking any action. They have no ability to interact with user registration or user access or authority.

The one exception to this limited rule is HollowOak. I have additional authority on other areas of the boards. I can add/remove or alter members' authorization to access specific boards. I can move threads on any board. I cannot delete threads or interact with member registration or ban users. That authority solely rests with Ferrix.
