Prosper & the Better Business Bureau

http://goldengate.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=99&bbb=1116&firm=118427

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record

When are some of these glamour media gonna get off their butts & write the real truth about prosper.com

How can media live with themselves by writing fluff from a press release given to them EVERY single time? A real reporter could get the real truth in 10 minutes of googling.

My personal experiences with media in my life put a rough guess at 75% of things written are wrong.TV,newspapers & radio.

But the unsatisfactory rating is based on just 1 unanswered complaint -- not exactly a major criticism (especially considering just how much there is to be critical about with Prosper).

By the way, what ever happened with your AG complaints about Prosper?

AG complaints are cruising along.

BBB rating also comes from the # of complaints received even if all worked out.

Writing investigative pieces requires time, effort, and dedication.  Plus, you usually make more enemies than friends in the process.  Publishing a nice press release takes almost no effort and you get it for free.

What reader cares if some web 2.0 company they never heard of might have a shady underbelly?  It pales against the major credit fiascos at brick&mortar businesses.

Care to elaborate?

Are you sure?  The website stated:
Quote
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record due to an unanswered complaint.

When you hover over "unsatisfactory record," you get the following:
Quote
BBB Definition:unsatisfactory  record - A company has an "unsatisfactory business performance record" with the BBB is based on the experiences reflected in BBB files. This file condition results when the company has failed to resolve or respond to complaints, repeatedly failed to respond or resolve issues in a timely manner, failed to resolve the underlying issues for a pattern of complaints, failed to honor their commitment to mediate or arbitrate disputes or honor mediated agreements or arbitrated decisions, failed to substantiate, modify or discontinue false advertising claims that are challenged by the BBB, or failed to discontinue unauthorized use of the BBB name and logo, a Federally protected trademark.

Have you ever worked with the BBB?   It's ridiculously easy to close a complaint.   Just point to your catchall phrase in the TOS that basically says "tough cookies" for the victim, er I mean customer.
Or, if the customer actually has a legit beef, make him an unsatisfactory offer that you can convince the BBB rep (if you even have to deal with one) is reasonable.

Either way, the BBB will "Administratively Close" the issue and you avoid the stink of "unsatisfactory".    Prosper blew this rating via simple negligence.

Prosper had 19 complaints and only two happy endings.  That says a lot for a company of its size.

The job of a good writer is to make the reader care.  Why would a viewer care about a small, bankrupt car company as in "Tucker"?  Because the right writer can turn it into an epic struggle between corporate might and the little guy...

Odd, this bbb report basically says prosper.com is ok:
http://goldengate.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=99&bbb=1116&firm=195577

Oh, the bbb has two listings for prosper.  I bet most people check the prosper.com listing I am showing.
