max loan question
« on: January 25, 2008, 09:48:13 am »

Been looking at the possible P2P lending options and noticed they all have max loan $25,000.  Why is that?

It seems P2P lending sites are uncomfortable with scammers and deadbeats absconding with more than $25,000.

$25,000 and less is OK, though.

Am I the only one experiencing a deja vu in this thread?

Having looked up the registration details for the OP, I'd suggest everyone approach this with some care until the bona fides of the OP becomes more firmly established.

The default rates are bad enough at $25k, IMO, it should be lowered, or at least lowered for high risk credit grades.

I think another reason it that it takes many, many bids to fund 25k, any more, it would be even harder

Mostly I was wondering if there are regulations (e.g. state or federal) behind the consistent limit of 25K across Prosper, LendingClub and Zopa, or if it was a de facto limit (based on default rates, or number of contributions to make up the total loans, etc.) and the three sites just happened to all choose the same upper limit.
