Ira, he knows... and I did more than that; I offered him contacts but he's in a different state and can't use my contacts.
New Horizon, you're right; maybe I shouldn't have said anything. However, like Ms Tabby and Nora, I email my borrowers when they go late, and this man has gone late for months now. I've emailed him each time (go me!) and he's been very responsive. He has sounded genuinely grateful for my comments (even going so far as to thank me for my support last month, before I suggested to him that his Prosper loans maybe should not be his top priority if he's having trouble with his rent, his car payment etc.). He works for one of the companies that has been in the news a lot lately (yes, he told me which one), and his bonus and compensation have been severely impacted. Either he's been lying to me for months and this is the silliest con ever (why would he keep paying, and late at that?) or he's been trying. Since he's been responsive, unlike my many other lates, I've tried to help him as best I can. Under the circumstances, I'm happy to let him keep what remains of my Snickers which he would keep (as HO points out) whether or not I commented on its significance in his future financial life.
My remaining p2p instincts make me strongly prefer to know what's happened to my late borrowers. I feel much better about them defaulting if I know they've tried than if they just ignored me.
