Please move this to the lobby.

2 weeks ago i blogged about a felony arrest of John Witchel Prosper.com CTO.

Today i updated my blog

http://www.prospers.org/blogs/bamalucky

He's no longer listed.

Maybe Rateladder can shed some light on this. Can someone drop him a message?

Yea, Prosper Management found out that Witchel was a poly sci major and gave him the boot.

I believe he did recently complete a computer science master's degree.

I think he was just a sponsor for Cameron's master project.

Nope, just a BS...

http://www.linkedin.com/in/jwitchel

hmm he must either not be done or received a "consolation" prize of a BS for not finishing or meeting the standards needed. It doesnt make sense someone would go back to school a decade later for a second BS.

Ive come across many articles talking about him being a graduate student. Here is one example

Obviously he doesn't know the difference between a BS and an MS; he wrote that himself.

On this page it lists an MS from USF in 2004: http://www.freebase.com/view/guid/9202a8c04000641f80000000055c40c3

Notice the companies founded at bottom:

XCom Corporation       (Now bankrupt)

RedGorilla.com           (Now bankrupt)

Prosper.com              (Soon bankrupt)

I mentioned this on my blog this morning with links back to bama's related blogs and received this comment:

It's not new news... Hardly noteworthy! Many lenders knew of this prior felony (which oddly enough we can't seem to find conviction of, which means he may never have been convicted or sentenced to any time). College hijinks, nobody hurt and it was nearly two decades ago! He left Prosper.com for other reasons not related to this 'news' which isn't news at all. Either way, leave the man alone, his personal history isn't what we should be concerned about, it's how to correct collections, etc. Character assassination shouldn't be our calling as lenders.

The "non-news" story wasn't even the point of the post.

Interesting that that commenter seems to insinuate that they know why Witchel left...

an officer and co-founder of a company leaves with no comment by the company except to delete his name off the management page?

what exactly are these "other" reasons?

If a self described "architect" of a project I had invested in suddenly left the project, I think I would expect an explanation.

it could also be that they just shuffled the management around.. just because he is no longer CTO doesnt mean he left

Presumably, then, his new position would have been listed on the Prosper Management page.  I think the chances are very high that he's gone.

Agreed. And the "quietness" about his leaving is incredibly suspect. He, Shira and Goldie may end up being the smart ones after all.

Classic comment from Urbi to a poster who said they were leaving:

"Once again, we note that your threats are hollow and you come across like a sad, lonely blowhard.

I doubt anyone here gives a shit about you.  We pretty much all know that you are a vile and unethical parasite of a human being with an abnormal craving for attention."

who says he is still a manager? maybe they gave him some weird title and told him to work from home.

the bottom line though is that it IS a major change in management, and prosper is being very quiet about it. that doesnt bode well for anyone with any kind of interest in the company.

This is quite a startling development.

I should take out a second loan right now...

and also start pulling out funds.   :o
Maybe we should all take out loans the size of our "investments"....just in case the site goes down. :D

That's funny, I was thinking the EXACT same thing.   :D

There's the shell of a group set up for just such a thing...
