That's same great publicity for Fred93's blog, and also for my Summary of Prosper's Problems thread!

I'm extremely pleased that Chuck (TMFBigFrog), did this level of research for the article.  It seems so rare these days where news is just another form of entertainment.

Obviously far more issues with Prosper could be pointed out, but the average reader doesn't have that kind of attention span.

I wonder if any of the Pro-Prosper crowd is willing to continue a discussion in the Fool forums or here.

I was almost going to put up a post reminding Prosper lenders that they are always welcome to post over here at .org if they wish to continue the discussion, but I was too lazy, and also I don't think the posters in that thread were likely to.

Are there replies to the author's source material or is it just that?

The author had posted his references, but so far there are no replies to the thread he started in the "Prosper.com Discussion" forum on fool.com.

I've applied to be allowed to post on TMF, but it says that it is a manual process that can take 2-3 days. . . .

This couple was gung ho on Prosper and even blogged they were going to put $70K into it at one time. http://www.dinksfinance.com/2006/09/putting-70000-into-prospercom.html
Most people here were gung ho at first.  It's a learning curve between the marketing hype, reality & trying to figure out what services prosper really does provide & which services they make you think they are providing.

If Prosper actually DID collections, I would probably be more like nonattender and actually defend Prosper from these mean-spirited lenders.   ;D

Oh, it gets better...

MFGBill links a couple of loans, then proceeds to reveal current and past DQs on the prospective borrowers...

I'd be mad as heck if I attempted to get a loan on Prosper, then suddenly had links from the fool pointing to my loan, complete with a commentator broadcasting my bad credit to everyone on the internet. I'd be mad enough to sue just about everyone involved in that fiasco.

...About an hour or two before they normally do their last forum update of the day, I posted the link in an on-topic post to this thread related to Fred93's blog post: https://connect.prosper.com/t/4796.aspx

I suspect others may have done this as well.  I think Prosper may have decided to nix the day's final forum update to regroup, discuss whether the MF links should go through moderation, etc.

My post (or anyone else who attempted to post) with the MF link apparently didn't make it through moderation.

The Motley Fool article is now the #1 recommended article in the past 7 days!  Undoubtedly, because Prosper can't stuff the ballot box on this one.

They have been - I bet at least 2 of those defensive posts are from P-----r employees. Hopefully not the one where they didn't even know how much money Fred had lent  :ninja:

Classic comment from Urbi to a poster who said they were leaving:

"Once again, we note that your threats are hollow and you come across like a sad, lonely blowhard.

I doubt anyone here gives a shit about you.  We pretty much all know that you are a vile and unethical parasite of a human being with an abnormal craving for attention."

I really thought they would post some type of response.

I wonder what it would say -- "Whoops, our attorneys made an error in the BK court in Ohio, and now that we are aware of it, we will correct it immediately"?  Or maybe "I assure everyone that this scurrilous article is completely false; unfortunately, our lawyers have told us we cannot comment further because doing so would be a violation of the Gaerke's privacy"?  I think Prosper is just hoping the article will fade away over time.
