Prosper plans to reopen
« on: April 28, 2009, 12:15:00 am »

My Google alerts came up with two stories that may be of interest:

Prosper.com Reopens for Lending

Peer-to-Peer Lender Relaunched

Apparently Prosper will allow loans from commercial lenders to be sold on Prosper, but they must meet some restrictions.

Also, they think they can open to California "lenders" without SEC approval, making use of some intra-state exemption by the California Department of Corporations.

Minimum credit scores from individual borrowers will be 640.

Prosper Marketplace, Inc., is expected to make more announcements on Tuesday (presumably April 28, 2009).

Minimum credit scores from individual borrowers will be 640.

640 was the bottom end of the "C" credit grade.  Goodbye to the old "D" and "HR".   Good move.

Quote
Scott Langmack of Hillsborough, Calif., recently rolled over about $600,000 to Lending Club. His portfolio -- which holds about 1,300 loans -- has been earning an annual rate of about 13% since he started investing seven months ago. "My view is that in the next three years, I don't expect the [Dow Jones Industrial Average] to be over 10000," he says. "So why bother with the stock market at all?"

Well congratulations Prosper on getting something out the door again.

The 640 cap is a wise decision to protect lenders from their own foolishness.

I'm not sure why you dropped Ds.  The default rate is very close to Cs.  It's merely an issue of charging a sufficiently high interest rate to account for the default rate.

I'm not sure how well the bank issues loans will fair.  We might think they could do a better job of assessing loans, but that brings up the whole question of how toxic mortgages started.  Banks were churning out bad loans & reselling them eliminating their own risk.  How will this be any different?

I hope Prosper makes data available so that we can track the performance of certain bank originators over time.  Banks that originate loans with lower default rates for a given credit grade should expect to be rewarded by the lending community with lower bid interest rates.  Those that suck, will have to be charged more.

It might also be nice for banks to provide profiles on their origination process.  Does a certain bank verify the employment status & income of every borrower?  That would be worth something.  Or do they merely verify 25% (we know how well that has worked out).

Also, don't bring back your forums.  You have proven that you can't resist the urge to censor discussions to the detriment of your lenders.  If your lenders were better informed of the risks they were taking, they would have made better choices & you wouldn't look so crappy.  You would have been better off if you had never become involved in meddling in your own market with forums in the first place.  Don't make the mistake for the THIRD TIME.

We're sorry – only available to residents of California
Unfortunately, at this time lenders in Texas are not able to bid or transfer funds to Prosper. If you have portfolio plans, they have been paused. You may transfer funds out of your Prosper account as they become available from loan payments. If you would like help your fellow Americans you can click here to join the movement.

I think only CA residents can transfer $$$ in.
My "playing" with it leads me to believe you can bid when your account has enough money in it and you can apply for a loan. (For NY)

Edited to correct...NY cannot bid....but it's letting me ask for a loan.

There are only two things that I'm happy about here.

1. They actually came back up from the 3+ day downtime so I can continue to pull money out as fast as possible.
2. The detailed loan accounting is MUCH more detailed!  They actually show us the "Failed" payments now instead of hiding them from us!

right on Prospers home page there is a section for recent comments, low and behold there was one from Bamalucky saying how bad the Feb. 2007 loans were doing with 40 % being late.....wow, now that is what I call a reconfiguration.

I'm finding D E and HR......
It seems there is a separate area for P2P
