The fake listings on the Prosper home page really bother me
« on: January 08, 2011, 09:56:44 am »

3 fake listings on the homepage, when you click on them, they take you to all the actual listings (every active listing on the site, since the default filter is E or greater).  If you click on one particular loan you're interested in, they're hoping you'll forget what you clicked on or are too slow to realize they didn't take you to that result.

bait & switch all the way  :ninja:

Dot org was once a great place for discussion, conversion, and stock tips.  Now it's a wasteland of IRA01 calling people morans, cunts, and more while members stand around watching it happen and they don't give a shit.  Congrats white toast observers.  I have better ways of spending my time.  My Parthian shot, Nice Tie!

Which listings?

http://www.prosper.com/  the middle of the page shows three listings, but they all link to the same page

http://www.prosper.com/invest/individual_loans.aspx

And none of the three listings displayed on the main page exist.

Of course it's a sham, because in 4.0, we'd never see an active listing 100% funded.

For it to be bait and switch doesn't the bait have to be appetizing? None of those listings look particularly good to me. I think with that picture they were probably trying to show 3 very different listings in various states of funding to give a potential lender or borrower an idea of the types of listings that are there. It still should be updated because of the 100% funding.

Listings promoted on the home page should be available to customers.

+1.  Or at the very least, there should be a giant disclaimer that the image shown is for illustration only, and that those particular listings are no longer available (if they ever were -- there was a big shitstorm on the original official Prosper forum about 3.5 years ago about Prosper Photoshopping a screen shot of listings in which Prosper apparently changed the ending interest rate).

Clearly, you were not around when certain listings used to be "featured".  This created an enormous headache, as everyone wanted to know how to get their listing "featured".  Being on the homepage would be an even more unfair advantage to certain borrowers, so, they simply illustrated it, and made it rather plain via languae like "Click here for view all live listings" or whatever that if you wanted to see current inventory, *click*.

Why you think this is a problem is beyond me - but I'l note that .org has a similar psychological dynamic since some people want certain posts to  be "featured" on the .org homepage (ie, in public, in the lobby) - and that creates an enormous amount of pointless/profitless drama in this forum.
