Having been wholly inactive on Prosper.com (except for withdrawing money on a regular basis) since they destroyed the original forums and instituted what tries to pass as new forums, and their blog, I received this email, time-stamped as having been created at 5:07 am this morning:

Quote
Subject: Your account has been suspended    [ ref:xxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxx:ref ]

Dear [Epictetus],

For future reference, your Prosper support case number is xxxxxxxx.

Sincerely,
Prosper Customer Support

Help pages on this and other topics can be found at:
http://www.prosper.com/help/

This email was sent to [Epictetus] registered as Epictetus on Prosper. We will never send you an email which does not contain the full name and screen name that you registered with.

To which I replied:

From Epictetus to Prosper Customer Support:
Quote
On what basis?

I have not been active - in any way - on Prosper.com. in anywhere
from a few months to a number of months.

My Profile has not changed in nearly two years.

I have neither posted nor attempted to post anything on a current
Prosper.com forum, with the exception of three attempted (and
rejected) neutral posts in the very beginning, and have never
attempted at all to post anything on its blog.

I await your explanation.

There clearly is a Hit List at Prosper.com, and it is almost certainly based on membership in and posting here on Prospers.org.

Prosper management, astonishingly, appears ever and endlessly able to make itself even smaller, meaner, more petty, and desperate than ever it was before, achieving new Personal Worst after new Personal Worst.

How inept and terribly, terribly wasteful they were of my and every other early adopters' tremendous enthusiasm, support and goodwill toward them.

Despite Chris Larsen's repeated claims that Prosper is almost wholly a Web 2 company, Prosper, in reality, is to Web 2 as anti-matter is to matter.

Web 2, my ass.  Prosper is as avaricious and ruthless as any 19th-century company-store business ever was.

No surprise to me.

We know JW googles himself, searches for his name.

Look here: http://www.prospers.org/forum/know_your_audience_john_witchel_shares_how_he_raised_money_for_red_goril-t4974.0.html;msg70713#msg70713

A surprise the topic starter is also suspended?

That's absurd.  Please post any response from Prosper.

Does your suspension prevent you from doing anything you'd want to do?  (Not that it matters, but curious.)

Prosper missed me.  They lifted my suspension a day early.

I assume it means from PMI altogether, like Ira and Cubbies and me (voluntarity). Epictetus, I would take this up with Andrew personally (andrew@prosper.com) not via a CC and ask him what's going on. The PMI TOS allow them to suspend anyone for any reason or no reason at all, but I'd still like to know what their supposed reason was.

That's just sad and misguided.  It appears as though desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Maybe it's a mistake?

The same "mistake" that deleted his account from the old .com forums before they were removed?

They just haven't gotten to the rest of us yet. Also, there are some of us who are still lending, and they don't want to lose the revenue from those people.
